Fruitful – Goodness

We are sorry to report that this week’s evening service was not recorded. We apologise to anyone looking for this service, normal recordings will be available next week.

Emma’s clip from her sermon

Emma spoke on Goodness and used the above clip to demonstrate a child’s understanding of being a good person.  An adult’s reaction to the same question is usually much less decisive. This week, let’s take action now rather than later. One of the children in the clip tells us she’s too busy to be good to anyone else. Let’s be sure we are good in our busy lives, if you can make time brilliant, but if not, make sure you are reflecting the goodness of God in your daily life. Culture all the fruits of the spirit in your life this week, especially goodness. Let’s demonstrate ‘What you see us what you get’ by resounding God’s goodness to our core by remembering the 3 points Emma taught us:

1. Goodness lies at the heart of who God is.

“Moses said, “Please show me your glory.” And he said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The Lord.’”

Exodus 33:18-19

”Oh how abundant is your goodness…”

Psalm 31:19

Life is hard.

God is good.

Therefore, stand firm in His grace.

John Piper

2. Goodness lies at the heart of what Christ did.

“…God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him…”

Acts 10:38

“And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone…”

Mark 10:17-18

The glory of God is man fully alive and the life of man is the vision of God.

St. Irenaeus

3. Goodness lies at the heart of who we are created to be.

“And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.”

2 Corinthians 3:18

Are you a good person?

‘Goodness’ means – God alone is good.
